Flexor tenosynovitis

to view a larger one
Flexor tenosynovitis can develop
as early as 6 hours after the initial wound. Signs and symptoms include fusiform
swelling of the digit, and the digit or hand is held semi-flexed and rigid.
Any movement of the finger is very painful. Tenderness tends to be greatest
over the proximal portion of the tendon sheath.
Except in very early cases, treatment
is prompt surgical drainage, as involvement of a joint (other than the thumb)
may necessitate amputation.
