Pus
underneath the fingernail (Subungual abscess): A 63-year-
old man presented with right middle finger pain and redness of
3 day's duration after having shut it in a car door. He had a
history of rheumatoid arthritis and a rheumatoid nodule was seen
on the right middle finger. Examination of the finger revealed
pus underneath the fingernail (subungual abscess) and a paronychia
(pus at the base and side of the fingernail). The
scars on his knees are the result of bilateral knee replacements.
