Eye burn (Corneal burn) caused by contact with a curling iron: A 36-year-old female presented with severe left eye pain after having been struck with a hot curling iron while fixing her hair. Her vision was decreased in the injured eye. There was evidence of a large area of fluorescein (a dye that is taken up in injured areas of the eye) uptake on staining. The picture shows a corneal abrasion. The cornea is the protective hard surface over the center portion of the eye. (L.S.)
