Spider
bite caused by a brown recluse spider: A 23-year-old man presented
with an 18-hour history of localized pain and skin discoloration
after having been bitten by an insect. The surrounding redness
and central area of dying tissue are suggestive of a brown recluse
spider poisoning (envenomation). (Photographs used with permission
of James S. Walker, DO.) Brown recluse
spider. (L.S.)
