Episcleritis: A
28-year-old woman complained of a foreign-body sensation and redness of the outer
lower quadrant of her left eye of 2-day's duration. The salmon-colored, raised
area of episclera with local redness and swelling is suggestive of episcleritis
(an inflammation of the white part of the eyeball). There may be pain and tenderness
with this condition. (L.S.)
