Robert
S. Rhodes, MD
Dr. Rhodes
is currently an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University
of Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in Greater New York
and attended Cornell University. Dr. Rhodes received an M.D.
degree, cum laude, from SUNY-Upstate and completed a residency
in Surgery at Case Western Reserve University. His medical training
also includes a two-year research fellowship at Harvard Medical
School. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in
both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
After two
years of military duty, Dr. Rhodes returned to Cleveland on
the Case Western Reserve University faculty and rose through
the ranks to Professor. In 1988, he became the James D. Hardy
Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University
of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Rhodes
is on several editorial boards and holds or has held leadership
positions in many surgical organizations, including his current
role as the Associate Executive Director and Director of Evaluation
for the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Rhodes also has a longstanding
interest in surgical education and in health care policy. He
participated as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Fellow in Health
Care Financing and was a physician advisor to SANUS, the HMO
subsidiary of New York Life. He also has been interested in
the risks of transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
