Safety pin in the esophagus (Foreign body in the esophagus): A 34-year-old resident of a state mental institution presented with a history of reportedly having swallowed a safety pin during a scuffle with a caregiver. The front to back radiographic view of the neck reveals an open safety pin just below the level of the muscles of the voice box. (L.S.)
