eyelid laceration

Through-and-through wounds
of the lid margin must necessarily involve the muscles of the obicularis
occuli, the tarsal plate, skin, and conjunctiva. The lacrymal canaliculi
are only 1 mm beneath the lid margin as they course from the lacrymal
puncta toward the medial canthus.
Lacerations of the lid margin
which do not involve the lacrymal canaliculi still require expert and
painstaking closure to avoid unsightly and irritating notching of the
lid. If a lacrymal canaliculus is lacerated, the repair becomes much more
complex, as the cut ends must be found and reapproximated.
